The new street lighting on some of Westhoughton’s streets has been hailed a success by local councillors. After years of putting up with gloomy, yellow street lighting, residents finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel with a new lighting scheme.
The new white lights were installed on Elm Road (pictured), Greenfold Lane, Mabel Street, and The Welland. The lights have already made a massive impact when it is dark.
Councillor David Wilkinson, who represents the ward, said: “This is just what was needed. Hopefully it will make the area feel safer in the dark evenings.”
Fellow councillor Julia Silvester added: “Many residents told us how they feel unsafe out and about on the streets at night. The new street lighting may go some way in alleviating these fears.”
The new lighting is part of a wider scheme across the council estate which is being rolled out over the coming weeks. New lighting for other streets on the estate is to follow shortly.
