School Street house plan passed

Bolton’s Labour and Tory councillors have given the go-ahead for the Grundy’s Farm site to be turned into five new houses. Developers want to convert the old Grundy’s Farm building into two dwellings. They also want to build three new houses in the garden area.

Councillors on Bolton Council’s Planning Committee visited the site recently before making up their mind. Labour and Tory councillors voted to pass the plan.

Your local Liberal Democrat ward councillor – DAVID WILKINSON – voted against the plans but was outnumbered.

He said after the decision: “I am concerned that the developer is trying to fit too many houses in such a small site.”

Despite the fears of too many houses for the site, residents will be relieved to hear that the development will keep the existing farmhouse building, which dates back to the early 1700s, making it one of the oldest buildings in Westhoughton.

The application is just the latest in a string of housing developments across Westhoughton.

This is despite 100% of polled users of our website saying they are against more housing development in the town.
