Former snooker club goes up in flames

A former Market Street snooker club was set alight on Tuesday after it was believed there was a person sleeping rough inside.    Passers-by alerted firefighters who promptly put the fire out before it caused significant damage to the building.

The national supermarket chain LIDL are considering building a new supermarket on the site of Greenfields Private Members’ Club. The former club, located at the junction of Wigan Road and Cricketers Way, was going to be demolished to make way for new apartments.
