Fall in teacher-pupil ratio is shocking say Lib Dems

Teacher-pupil ratios in early years education have fallen across the country according to official figures released yesterday and analysed by the Liberal Democrats.

There are 40 local authorities where the ratio of qualified teaching staff to pupils in primary schools has fallen, and 50 authorities where the ratio has fallen in nursery schools.

New lights for residents 'kept in dark'

A NUMBER of streets on a Westhoughton council estate are to get new street lighting after years of residents being kept in the dark with their old lamps.

The news will come as a relief to residents who for many years have complained that the small, yellow lights have made the streets on the estate very gloomy in the evenings.


New speed measures welcomed

NEW anti-speeding measures have been put in place on Dicconson Lane - and the news was welcomed by your Liberal Democrat councillor, Derek Gradwell.

A new speed camera, which flashes a 30mph warning at passing drivers, has been installed along the road, which is plagued by speeding traffic on a day-to-day basis.


Labour's second blow to Hart Common

LABOUR has dealt a second blow to Hart Common’s residents by saying that it wants to remove the area’s only play facility just weeks after the local bus service was decimated.

Bolton’s Labour-run Council sounded the death-knell for the play area as part of its new ‘play strategy’ for the borough.
