The mobile phone mast is not responsible for the loss of signals on channel 66 and 68 i met the ofcomm engineer in Hindley green and he had the same Digital meter as me and he was baffled also. It is now in the hands of the broadcasting company i havent heard any more from them yet but the problem is still causing losss of channels for many people in Westhoughtion and Hindley green.

I and many other local residents are VERY ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED that the planning application was approved. We do not want another food outlet which will provide only duplicate the existing choices of foods and prices available at the Coop. It will not draw people into Westhoughton, and iany one who chooses to shop at the new store will be highly unlikely to then cross an extremely busy main road to buy goods from the existing shops on Market Street and may subsequently be the death of our existing high street. Further more we do not want our already limited recreational facilities relocating to a site away from Westhoughton centre, the cricket ground on Cricketers Way (the name may be relevant) is an important local venue for various youth activities cricket, rounders, etc. and not all our young participants will be able to travel to the new location (they might as well just head down to Daisy Hill Cricket club where the facilities already exist).

No, No, No. There are enough supermarkets close by, with one already within 200 yards of the proposal. We need as much green space as we can retain. We do not need anything which attracts even more traffic into this poorly-planned area. As to the jobs created -what about the potential losses to existing businesses?

So you think it's O.K just to have a Co-Op in an area that has more than trebled in size over the last few years. You talk about traffic, look no further than the Reebok. If this was a housing application, it would already have been passed!!!!

The road network of Westhoughton is already in a poor state, anyone who travels at peak periods will know this, therefore to add a major supermarket would invite chaos. By putting a junction on Cricketeers Way for access you would have to assume the inculsion of another set of traffic lights, four in approx 250m, plain crazy! Also why are people not asking the question about the reduction in public access, the proposal to build on the Hoskers reduces this greatly. Ask yourselves this, why does Westhoughton need another supermarket, is the community not lacking in other ammenities to which this land would be better used?

Thank you for your comment, Alan. Two useful websites you may wish to check out are the Ofcom site at http://www.ofcom.org.uk/ and the Digital Switchover website at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/.

I suspect that a mobile phone mast in the Westhoughton area is causing a loss of digital TV signals in the Wearish Lane and Hindley Green areas.

When I read the report about the mast on Lower Leigh road, I thought it might be this one, but it seems not.

I had an aerial installer to my house on Alder Lane on Saturday last and he informed me that since the erection of a new mast that he did not recognise, householders in the Wearish Lane and Hindley Green areas are unable to receive many of the digital signals that we have been receiving for the past 3 years. He went on to give my aerial system a clean bill of health, stating that if this mast were to be switched off, then things might possibly return to normal. if it is not switched off, then we might see an improvement when the Digital Switch Over takes place in November 2009.

I find this unacceptable.

Is there some action I can take to get to the bottom of the problem?

Is there any help you can offer?

thanks for reading.

Hi,

I read your piece about the proposed new recycling plant at the scrap yard off Manchester Road. While local people might know where this site is, putting the Post Code in your article, would help people not familiar with the area to see the exact spot to which you refer.
With the spread of the internet, many people use Google Earth to track geographical locations.

BTW - I am living in Somerset, but considering relocating to my birth area - Little Hulton, Bolton.

Regards
