Your 2024 team for Westhoughton

The 2024 local elections are almost upon us, so here are your Liberal Democrat candidates for Westhoughton this year.

Councillor Deirdre McGeown

Deirdre McGeown

For residents who live in Westhoughton North and Hunger Hill ward, your candidate will be Deirdre McGeown again. She won the November 2023 by-election which took place after a Conservative councillor quit.

Deirdre, who used to work in the legal profession and is a grandmother, has lived in Westhoughton for more than two decades. She is currently serving as the town’s mayor.

Councillor Neil Maher

For residents who live in Westhoughton South ward, your candidate for Bolton Council will once again be Neil Maher, who you elected in 2023.

Neil served in the Army for two decades, including in the Falklands War, and spent more than 20 years working in the NHS. He is a governor at Westhoughton High School and a passionate Bolton Wanderers fan.

Rish with Liberal Democrat councillors

Rish Chohan

For those residents who live in the Central parish of Westhoughton South ward, as well as being able to vote for Neil Maher for Bolton Council, you’ll have a second vote which you can use to elect Rish Chohan to Westhoughton Town Council.

Rish has called Westhoughton home for more than 20 years and is raising his family here. He is a local businessman and owner of the popular Market Street cafe Rishi’s. As a local father and business owner, he knows the issues that residents are facing - and he’s passionate about supporting our thriving town centre.
